Уганда, Республика Уганда Государство в Вост. Африке. 236 тыс. кв. км. Население 17.7 млн. человек (1993); ганда, сога, ньянколе, тесо и др. Городское население 11.3% (1991). Официальный язык – английский и суахили. 75% верующих – католики и протестанты, 5-6% – мусульмане, остальные придерживаются местных традиционных верований. Административно-территориальное деление: 38 округов. Столица – Кампала. Входит в Содружество. Глава государства и правительства – президент. Временный законодательный орган – Национальный совет сопротивления. Уганда расположена в пределах Восточно-Африканского плоскогорья. В рельефе преобладают возвышенные равнины высота 1100-1500 м. На западе – горный массив Рувензори (высота до 5109 м).
